The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) held a joint coordination meeting with Eastern Sumi Hoho and Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator districts at Hotel Saramati here on Tuesday to deliberate on the issue of ‘Frontier Naga Territory’, an autonomous body proposed for six eastern districts of Nagaland.
Addressing the media after an hour-and-a-half-long meeting, ENPO president Tsapikiu Sangtam claimed that a fruitful discussion was held between the two organisations and expressed the hope that both would continue to work together.
He informed the media that members of Sumi tribe from both Kiphire and Shamator districts were present at the meeting, along with representatives from Eastern Sumi Hoho.
Other members who attended the meeting also claimed that the meeting was positive. They said further action would depend upon the Central and State governments.
It may be mentioned that ESH had recently held a rally at Seyochung town, where hundreds of participants reaffirmed the October 25, 2022 public resolution “to continue to exist politically, economically and administratively with present state of Nagaland in the event any negotiated solution is made between Govt of India and ENPO.”
ESH also appealed to the chief minister “to exclude Eastern Sumi territory and its population census and electoral roll from the purview of the demand or negotiation/solution/settlement that may take place between the government of India and ENPO and include/merge with Zunheboto district, which is the immediate district with land continuity.”
