Shifting to high gear as a strong message over demand of people of Eastern Nagaland for Frontier Nagaland State, Central Executive Council (CNC), Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) through its media cell, has reaffirmed that it will stick by the August 26, 2022 resolution of “ not taking part in any election process of the Central and State until and unless a separate Statehood- (Frontier Nagaland)-is granted by the Government of India, as demanded by the people of Eastern Nagaland under the aegis of ENPO.”
Further, indicating that there will be no compromise on the issue, the CEC also resolved that in the event of there being no early response from the Central government to the demand of people of ENPO areas for a separate Statehood, “the public of Eastern Nagaland region shall demand resignation of 20 legislators of Eastern Nagaland from Nagaland Legislative Assembly and all political party workers, both central and regional.”
This was among several resolutions adopted by the CEC of ENPO at Chang Khulei Setshang Hall, Tuensang on October 14 while deliberating on reaffirmation to previous resolutions on important issues.
ENPO media cell informed that the seven tribal bodies– Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC), Konyak Union (KU), Phom People’s Council (PPC), United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) and Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) – have endorsed the resolution to mobilise people at the grassroots to ensure success of the movement for separate state. Subsequent to the resolution, the conglomerate has decided, an effective plan of action for furthering the movement will be worked out through at an emergency CEC meeting.
In another resolution, the CEC of ENPO has also decided, that from the year 2022, participants from Eastern Nagaland will not take part at Hornbill Festival at Kisama, Kohima in view of hardships faced by the participants. However, the meeting decided that the State government shall be requested through Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) to promote Mini Hornbill Festival of respective tribes.
The house also strongly resolved to uphold the December 18, 2007 Tuensang Summit ENPO resolution, which stated that “there should be no bloodshed, threat, intimidation or any form of violence within Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction.”
The house also decided that the people of ENPO will not extend any public cooperation to any group(s) for non-compliance of the above.
It may be mentioned that the ENPO on September 7, 2022 directed all seven tribal bodies to ban any election-related campaign by any party and candidate declaration programme in their respective jurisdictions. ENPO also prohibited carrying out massive public mobilisation programmes without any delay vis-à-vis demand for ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state.
