Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has revived its demand for a separate State. At a meeting with its federating units in Tuensang on December 21, ENPO unanimously resolved to urge the Government of India to respond to its demand for a separate State before declaration of election to Nagaland Assembly due early next year.
“Unanimously we resolved to urge Government of India to respond to the demand of ENPO for a separate statehood before declaration of election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 2018,” the resolution stated, as reported by UNI and The Assam Tribune.
ENPO also resolved to ask its members to resign if their demand for a separate state of “Frontier Nagaland” was not fulfilled by the Centre before the state general election slated for March next year, a UNI report stated. The meeting further declared, affirmed and resolved that through constitutional and democratic, symbolic and preliminary expression to be followed with successive agitation campaigns if the Centre does not accede to the demand of the ENPO.
According to The Assam Tribune, the meeting was called after two of the constituents of ENPO – Konyak Union (KU) and Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) – had asked for convening of the meeting to deliberate on boycotting the forthcoming Assembly poll to intensify their demand for a separate State known as “Frontier Nagaland” State.
ENPO also declared its support for an early declaration of an honourable Naga solution which should be acceptable and beneficial to all as desired by Naga public in general, a resolution passed at the meeting said. All the six tribal councils and six frontal organisations under ENPO – Eastern Nagaland Gazetted Officers Association, Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation, Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation, Eastern Nagaland Gaon Buras Union and Eastern Nagaland Dobhashi Union, attended the meeting.
