ENPO stand over proposed FNT offer from GoI

The second Tripartite Meeting on the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) was held at Chümoukedima Police Complex on January 15, lasting over five hours where representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), state government, and Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) participated.
Later addressing media persons, ENPO president A. Chingmak Chang clarified that the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) proposal was made by the Government of India, while ENPO’s demand was for a separate state. He expressed hope that the government is serious about resolving the issue in an honorable manner.
He reaffirmed ENPO’s unwavering position, that the proposed FNT would not be accepted without Legislative, Executive, and Financial autonomy. “Financial, Executive and Legislative autonomy should be there, which they have agreed in principle”, he added.
Chang expressed optimism regarding the ongoing Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) talks, noting that key issues were discussed but refused to elaborate.
While declining to disclose details about competencies offered by the government, Chang noted that key issues remain unresolved. He highlighted thorough discussions on these matters and anticipated a follow-up meeting soon.
To address unemployment concerns, Chang revealed that ENPO had requested the government of India to establish a central battalion, such as a regiment, to create job opportunities. He also said ENPO’s proposal for modernization of the village guards was accepted by the central government. He also emphasized the need for practical measures to address regional challenges.
Regarding the government’s proposal for ex-officio representatives, Chang stated that further consultation with constitutional experts is necessary and that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was addressing the matter.
When questioned about the MHA’s commitment to addressing the Eastern Nagas’ historical and political aspirations, Chang confirmed detailed discussions were held , though no written clarity has yet been provided.
