ENPO to abstain from Hornbill Fest

Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has once again reaffirmed to abstain from taking part in the forthcoming Hornbill Festival scheduled from December 1 as per the October 14, 2022 resolution no. 6.

The decision was made during the executive meeting of the ENPO held at Dimapur on November 3, 2023. As per the meeting resolution, the house also resolved to stand by resolution no. 4 of the subsequent Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting held on September 8, 2023 at Tuensang HQ, wherein it was resolved that the decision with regard to participate/non-participation shall be taken by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation executive within the month of October 2023.

However, as endorsed by the September 8 CEC meeting, the ENPO executive decided to not take part in the Hornbill festival 2023. It may be mentioned that the ENPO had on October 14, 2022 decided to abstain from taking part in the Hornbill Festival (from 2022), in view of hardships faced by the participants.

Despite all efforts made to convince the ENPO to reconsider its decision to abstain from taking part in the Hornbill Festival in 2022, ENPO remained firm on non-participation in upholding the October 14, 2022 CEC resolution.

The Central Executive Council meeting, rather, decided that the State government shall be requested through Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) to promote Mini Hornbill Festival of the respective tribes under Eastern Nagaland.
