ENSF calls for implementation of 2-lane project

DIMAPUR

Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has appealed to the state government for immediate implementation of long-pending construction and upgradation of National Highway-202, which connects Kohima and Mokokchung via Eastern region of Nagaland.
In a representation to deputy chief minister and minister in-charge National Highways, ENSF president Nuheymong Yimkhiung and secretary general James Konyak said similar two-lane road projects have been implemented and completed in other regions of the State. However, ENSF said the portion connecting Eastern districts remained abandoned for more than a decade.
The federation stated that deplorable condition of the road has resulted in persistent hardship for the people of Eastern Nagaland. During monsoon season, ENSF said the situation becomes exceedingly dire owing to incessant rainfall.
It said that people of Eastern Nagaland have long endured developmental disparities and neglect. Appreciating the government’s vision for improved connectivity, ENSF has, however, said that continued inaction on particular project has caused deep hardship.
It said the delay undermined the “doctrine of legitimate expectation”, as the public had long anticipated the execution of the project. Therefore, ENSF has urged the minister in-charge to intervene and ensure the immediate commencement and completion of NH-202 project without further delay.
