ENWO Mkg holds sensitization on child protection

DIMAPUR: A sensitization programme on the theme “Protect Children and Empower Women” was organised by the Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO), Mokokchung Unit in convergence with SANKALP–District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, at Aongza Ki on Saturday.
The programme was chaired by Lushian Khiamniungan, vice president of ENWO Mokokchung Unit. Invocation was offered by Temsula Sangtam, president of ENWO Alichen Sub‑Union, while the welcome address was delivered by A. Mandang Phom, president of ENWO Mokokchung Unit.
Delivering the keynote address, Yingphe Konyak, president of ENWO, stressed collective responsibility in ensuring the safety, dignity and empowerment of women and children. She urged participants to work together to build a society free from violence, discrimination and exploitation.
In the technical sessions, Moamenla Longkumer, district mission coordinator, DHEW Mokokchung, highlighted various women‑centric schemes and programmes. Wangshinaro Yaden, centre administrator, Sakhi One Stop Centre, spoke on gender‑based violence and child marriage, raising awareness on legal provisions and support services.
Speaking on child protection and child labour, Imnatula, district supervisor, DCPU–Child Helpline, explained children’s rights, harmful effects of child labour and the role of communities in preventing abuse. She highlighted services of the 1098 Child Helpline and emphasized that child protection is a fundamental right. She elaborated on legal frameworks including the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act, Child Labour Act and Child Marriage Act, urging the public to educate children instead of employing them.
An interactive question‑and‑answer session followed, allowing participants to clarify doubts. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Esther Sangtam, general secretary of ENWO Mokokchung Unit, and a closing prayer.
