ESI Act extended to all districts of Nagaland

DIMAPUR

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified the implementation of key provisions of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Act, 1948 across Nagaland, thereby bringing all districts under its ambit in two phases.
According to Gazette notifications, the Central Government has appointed May 1, 2025 as the date for enforcement of the Act in the districts of Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Chumukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto. The provisions include sections 38 to 43, 45A to 45H, 46 to 73, 74 and 75, sub-sections (2) to (4) of section 76, and sections 82 and 83.
Subsequently, through another notification dated October 17, 2025, the Government fixed November 1, 2025 for enforcement of the Act in the remaining districts—Tuensang, Mon, Phek, Kiphire, Peren, Longleng, Shamator, Noklak and Meluri. The provisions notified cover sections 38 to 43, 45A to 45H, 46 to 75, sub-sections (2) to (4) of section 76, and sections 82 and 83. Officials stated that the extension of the ESI Act will ensure wider social security coverage for employees across Nagaland, marking a significant step in labour welfare.
Meanwhile, the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, has extended financial relief to insured persons and their families in Nagaland during November 2025.
According to the Regional Office Guwahati, the Branch Offices in Nagaland disbursed a total of Rs. 2,08,285 to nine beneficiaries under various schemes of the Employees’ State Insurance Act. The benefits covered include Sickness Benefit (SB), Permanent Disablement Benefit (PDB), Dependants’ Benefit (DB), and Maternity Benefit, among others. Officials noted that the disbursement reflects ESIC’s commitment to providing timely financial and medical support to insured persons and their dependants during exigencies.
