State Labour Commissioner cum Chief Inspector of Factories and Boilers, Er. L Nungshiyanger Aier, today informed that the department has taken decision to set up Employee State Insurance (ESI) regional sub-office in Dimapur. In this regard, he has encouraged the employees to register and avail the benefits provided to them.
He said this during the ESI scheme awareness programme, organized by the Director of Labour (DoL) Department, in collaboration with Employment’s State Insurance (ESI), Regional Office, Guwahati, at Nagaland Aluminum Industry, Golaghat Road, Dimapur, here Friday. The awareness programme was organized to enforce the provision of sub-section (5) of section 1 of the Employee’s State Insurance Act 1948 at.
During the programme, Regional Director, Guwahati, P Baruah, has highlighted on the ESI scheme provided by Ministry of Labour, Government of India. He said ESI is an integrated measure of social insurance embodied in ESI Act which was designed to accomplish the task of protecting employees against the impact of incidences of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to injured person and their families.
Baruah explained that the scheme was applied to factories and other establishments like road transport, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, newspapers, shops, education/ medical institution where 10 or more persons were employed. However, he said in some states the threshold limit for coverage of its establishments was still 20. Employees of the aforesaid categories of factories and establishments, drawing wages upto Rs 15,000 per month were entitled to social security cover under ESI Act.
Deputy Director of ESI Regional, Guwahati, shared the benefits of ESI scheme to the employees which include sickness, disablement, dependants, maternity and medical. He said other benefits being provided to the beneficiaries were confinement expenses, funeral expenses, vocational rehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, unemployment allowance.
He said that once then employer is allotted ESI registration number for their factory/ establishment, the concerned employee would be asked to register themselves under ESI scheme by submitting details of the employee, family members, residence address of both the employee and the family, dispensary at which they want to avail throughout their lifetime even if the employee decided to change job.
He mentioned that every Insured Person (IP) has been provided with Temporary Identification Certificate (TIC) which would valid for three months. Within the period, IP along with TIC and family photo has to approach the nearest Branch office. He also said with the completion of Pehchan Card, one could avail medical facilities at designated ESI dispensary/ hospital.
State Labour department staff and Regional officials from Guwahati have been organizing the scheme awareness programme from February 4-6 in different units and establishments in the state. The programme was attended by employees from various mills and factories and industries in around Dimapur.
