ESIC holds awareness on social security benefits

DIMAPUR

Advisor of Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Moatoshi Longkumer emphasized the need to expand coverage under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, ensuring that more employers and employees receive social security benefits in Nagaland.
He was speaking at the first Regional Board Meeting and Awareness-cum-Outreach Programme organized by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) North East Region at Hotel Vivor, Kohima, on June 10.
The ESI Scheme has been implemented in 63 districts across the North East, including eight districts of Nagaland—Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu, Wokha, and Zunheboto.
However, awareness of the scheme remains low among workers and their families, prompting ESIC to hold this interactive session for information-sharing and grievance redressal.
The programme was attended by employers, employees, and representatives from various Employer Associations and Employees’ Unions. Financial Commissioner of ESI Corporation, T.L. Yaden, highlighted that ESIC is one of the largest organizations globally in delivering social security through medical and cash benefits. She added that linking the PMJAY scheme with ESIC would strengthen secondary and tertiary healthcare services in Nagaland.
Insurance Commissioner of the Northeast Zone, Pranay Sinha, stated that an ESIC hospital could be set up in Nagaland once the number of insured persons in the state reaches 15,000. He encouraged all stakeholders to register under the scheme.
Dr. Soumya Chakraborty, Dean and Director of the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Kohima, praised the benefits of the ESIC Scheme and highlighted the Ward of IP Scheme, which allocates seats for wards of insured persons (IPs) in ESIC medical colleges.
The programme was attended by senior government officials, including P. Sotsula, Commissioner & Secretary of LESDE, and Anoop Khinchi, Commissioner & Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, along with employer and employee representatives.
Currently, ESIC provides coverage to approximately 4.1 crore insured persons and 15.9 crore beneficiaries across 694 districts through its network of 165 hospitals, 1,590 dispensaries, 8 medical colleges, 65 regional/sub-regional offices, 610 branch offices, and 105 dispensary-cum-branch offices.
