In commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), an award presentation programme for an inter-school essay writing competition was held at Town Hall, Meluri on August 30. The event aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote a drug-free society among youth.
According to a DUIPR report, Deputy Commissioner of Meluri, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, delivered the keynote address, urging students to adopt healthy habits and reject substance abuse. He emphasized that the NMBA campaign seeks to instil discipline and foster a generation of youth committed to building a drug-free Meluri. “Let us join hands to make Meluri a healthy and drug-free district,” he appealed.
A total of 495 students from 11 schools across Meluri district participated in the competition, which was divided into two categories: Classes 11–12 and Classes 9–10. Essay topics included, “Drug Abuse and its Ill Effects on Society,” “My Dream of a Drug-Free Meluri,” and “Why I Must Say No to Drugs.”
In the senior category (Classes 11–12), the winners were: 1st Prize: Thsointhsi Yingpithonger, Class 12, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School; 2nd Prize: Lütapi Thupitor, Class 12, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School; 3rd Prize (tie): Atsalo Nyusou, Class 12, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School & Jesika Trakha, Class 12, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School.
In the junior category (Classes 9–10), the winners were: 1st Prize: Tawülo Pichhurü, Class 9, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School; 2nd Prize: Suru Tangvah, Class 9, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School; 3rd Prize: Tsüno Venuh, Class 9, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School.
The awards were presented by Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Meluri, Thorhosie Kajiri. The programme was chaired by EAC Meluri, Pipfusa Pojar.
