Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) has vehemently condemned the “physical assault” and “tortured” allegedly meted out to ato kilonser col. (retd) Isak Sumi and his family by certain individuals of NSCN/GPRN-K on January 4.
In a condemnation note, ESSU president, Ghuvika Yeptho and general secretary, Violka Zhimo stated that Isak and his wife Kakheni were former vice president and president of the union.
The union said that such “contemptuous actions” of certain individuals against their own leaders have raised questioned on the intent and credibility in their “service for the nation”.
ESSU appealed to the national workers to imbibe the spirit of leadership and character in their governance as “these petty acts of violence and intimidation will only foment hatred and discord” and also did not reflect the desire and interest of the general Naga public at this crucial juncture of the Naga history.
Meanwhile, ESSU acknowledged the sacrifice and service of Isak Sumi and family towards the union and the Naga cause and affirmed to stand their family at this of adversity.
