Ex-MLA Chupfuo passes away

Former legislator of 11 Northern Angami-II assembly constituency, Chupfuo Kense, passed away in Kohima on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 77.

Born on March 3, 1944, late Chupfuo did his early education from Tuophema LP school and graduated in 1975. 

Besides being elected twice (1977-82), late Chupfuo, who is also the brother-in-law of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, was involved in various social organizations. He was also the vice president of Nagaland People’s Council and later became the president of Nagaland unit Lok Janshakti Party. He also held several positions like—national secretary Dalit Sena (NE in-charge ST), general secretary of Angami Public Organisation, founder president of Tuophema Village Youth, general secretary Northern Angami Sports Association, member railway recruitment board Gauhati etc. He also received several awards like Best Citizen of India, Glory of India Award.

NLA speaker: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkumer has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Chupfuo.

In a condolence message, Longkumer described late Chupfuo as “a humble and dynamic leader”, who worked diligently for the welfare and upliftment of his constituency and for the people of Nagaland. 

NLA speaker said that his contribution to the State would always be honoured.

The speaker, on behalf of the Members of the 13th NLA, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that God Almighty grant them solace and comfort at this hour of grief. 

Dy.CM: Mourning the demise of former MLA Chupfuo, the state deputy chief minister Y Patton said that the Nagas, in his death, have lost a good leader whose absence would be felt. 

In a condolence message, Patton described late Chupfuo as “a man of integrity” who served the people of Nagaland as member of NLA for two terms. 

Patton, who is also state BLP leader, on behalf of the state BJP legislators, conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that God comfort them during the hour of grief.
