Excise arrests 218 persons in December

State Excise Department, in continuation with its drive to check illegal sale, possession and smuggling and transportation of liquor and drugs in the district, has arrested 218 persons and registered equal number of cases besides confiscating huge quantities of drugs and IMFL during December 2014.
The department has registered two cases relating to drugs and seized a total of 6439 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon and Relipen tablets as well as 200 bottles of cough syrups. The department has also registered 218 cases relating to liquor and seized 4288 bottles of assorted liquor and 6770 bottles/Can Beer and deposited Rs 3,90,500 revenue.
The raids were carried out in different pockets of Dimapur by three wings comprising District Staff, Narcotic Cell and Mobile Squad.
In a press release, Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Dimapur, Lanuwari Jamir stated that all liquor offenders were booked and penalized under NLTP Act 1989, adding that the Department is contemplating to conduct more such raids and surveillance around to thwart any attempt to smuggle liquor in the town.
Further, informing that the Department would perform regular checking of vehicles, restaurants and lounges, the Deputy Commissioner has appealed the public to cooperate and support the department in order to successfully implement NLTP Act 1989.
