DIMAPUR, JUN 16 (NPN): State excise department has clarified its position on several issues currently drawing public attention, including the excise constable recruitment process, the recent seizure of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) by the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and allegations of liquor sale during an NSL exhibition match held in Chümoukedima.
In a press release, commissioner of excise H. Atokhe Aye said the department had taken note of concerns raised in print and social media and sought to place the facts on record.
Regarding the excise constable recruitment process, the commissioner informed that a few applicants had challenged certain aspects of the recruitment before the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench. As the matter was currently sub judice, he said the department was awaiting the court’s verdict before taking any further steps.
Referring to the recent seizure of IMFL by the AYO near Kohima area, the department appreciated the organisation’s vigilance and cooperation in intercepting and handing over the seized liquor and the vehicle involved to excise authorities.
The department informed that the seized items had been deposited in the departmental malkhana, adding that the case remained under investigation.
Efforts were also underway to apprehend the absconding accused, it added.
Reiterating its commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining transparency, the department urged the public not to be influenced by unverified information and stated that official updates would be communicated through appropriate channels as and when necessary.
On allegations that alcohol was sold during the NSL exhibition match, the department said it had initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter. The statement said further investigation was underway to establish the facts and determine whether any provisions of the law had been violated.
