Reacting to the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench judgment quashing the physical test and written examination for excise constable recruitment conducted by the Departmental Recruitment Board (DRB), the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has appealed to the state government to dissolve the existing DRB and constitute a fresh, competent, and transparent recruitment body to restore public trust and ensure adherence to rules and natural justice.
DNSU through its media cell said it has already submitted a representation to the secretary, excise department seeking urgent intervention on the issue.
The union highlighted anguish and uncertainty among affected aspirants who invested years of preparation, financial resources, and effort in good faith, only to face disappointment due to procedural irregularities beyond their control.
Describing the matter as “extremely serious”, DNSU said the Court has clearly observed that recruitment rules cannot be altered midway, raising concerns over transparency, fairness, and accountability in the conduct of the recruitment process. DNSU has also urged the government to safeguard affected aspirants by exempting those who qualified the physical test in the quashed process from repeating it in the fresh recruitment, recognising their hard work and preventing further hardship due to administrative lapses.
The union stressed that the future of thousands of educated unemployed youth cannot be compromised by institutional failures.
It said that restoring aspirants’ morale and confidence required fair and compassionate measures.
Therefore, the DNSU urged the state government to address the issue urgently in the interest of justice, transparency, and youth welfare. The union affirmed to pursue the matter until a satisfactory resolution was achieved.
