Excise Dimapur district officials on Friday, destroyed 23, 384 bottles of assorted liquor at the premises of Directorate of Excise and Prohibition, Dimapur.
Presenting brief achievement of the department from September 1, 2015 to May 30, 2016, Superintendent of Excise (mobile squad) Dimapur, Katoho Sumi informed that 866 numbers of cases were detected and 866 persons were arrested in this connection. He said during this period, 23, 384 bottles of assorted liquor were seized amounted to Rs. 8.69 lakh which has been deposited at the state exchequer.
Also speaking at the programme, additional commissioner of Excise, Dimapur Pitongse Sangtam lamented that the Excise department has less manpower which he said was a major hindrance in executing the duty effectively.
He also admitted that though implementation of NLTP has been more or less successful in other districts the department has not been able to check the inflow of liquor in Kohima and Dimapur districts effectively. Sangtam attributed existence of many “entry points” to these districts and less manpower to check this “entry points” as one of the major factors.
Therefore, he appealed the public to continue to extend cooperation and support towards the department to work for the welfare of the society.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by deputy commissioner of excise (HQ), Dimapur Lanuwati Jamir and invocation prayer by Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur (LBCD) Pastor Reverend Chumben Kyong. The programme was followed destruction of the seized articles along with liquor destruction board.
