Excise Kohima personnel manning Peducha check gate on Tuesday at around 7:10 a.m. seized 195 kgs of contraband ganja from a Maruti Sezuki SX4 ZXI (AS-01 AE 4127) and arrested two persons in this connection.
According to Superintendent of excise Kohima, Vikikhe Aomi, with enforcement of model code of conduct due to the ensuing bye-election in 10-Northen Agamai-1 A/C, the Excise personnel are on high alert to detect illegal consignments. He said the Excise personnel on suspicion intercepted the car and on checking found the consignment hidden in the car. In this connection, two persons identified as Kruvi Lea (29) son of Theo Lea (driver) and Dupu Lea (20) son of Vilalhou Lea (student) both from Tsupfume village, Phek district was arrested.
During interrogation, the driver disclosed that the ganja belongs to his brother-in-law, Vilalhou Lea (father of the second accused and owner of the car), who was travelling in another vehicle Maruti Alto to look out for safe passage, informed Excise Kohima. In this connection, Excise Kohima informed that prima facie case has been registered against the two accused for violation of NDPS Act 1985 and the seized contraband and vehicle forwarded to court and that the case was under investigation. The Excise check gate team was led by AIE Pusukhong, constables, Zaselatuo, Vekuto, Kelhouvikuo, Kuvejopo, Teliya, Chingmak, Vangtok and Aoseng.
