Excise seizes 261 cases of IMFL

Excise personnel manning Khuzama inter-state check gate seized 261 cases of assorted Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a routine vehicle check on September 7.

According to asst commissioner, Excise (Zonal), Kohima, Venezolu Dawhuo, the consignment was recovered in a truck (AS01-LC-4859).

Excise duty party intercepted the truck and, upon thorough inspection, found the IMFL cases hidden under bags of essential commodities and fertilizer boxes to evade detection. The truck was en route from Guwahati, Assam, and was allegedly destined for Imphal, Manipur.

In this connection, two individuals, identified as Vijay Pradhan, son of Madan Pradhan, a resident of Gautam Bosti, Khatkati, Assam, and Suraj Chetry, son of Diluip Chetry, a resident of Gaur Chowk, Guwahati, Assam, were arrested for violating the NLTP Act, 1989. Further investigation is underway.
