DIMAPUR, JUN 10 (NPN): Excise personnel seized 720 bottles of beer and 96 bottles of whisky and arrested one person in Niuland district during a mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) duty on June 8, 2026.
In a press release, joint commissioner of excise (NC) S. Phyobemo Kikon said personnel of the Excise Narcotic Cell, led by assistant inspector of excise Hamngai Phom, intercepted a suspected vehicle after acting on a tip-off and maintaining surveillance.
During the search, the team recovered 720 bottles of beer and 96 bottles of whisky. One person, identified as one Akaho (57), a resident of Niuland district, was arrested and penalised under relevant provisions of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act. The seized items have been deposited at the Excise Narcotic Cell Malkhana.
Meanwhile, personnel manning the inter-state check gate at Khushiabill registered 36 offences under the NLTP Act during May 2026 and seized 1,560 bottles and cans of assorted alcoholic beverages.
