The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and CPO 2-lane Committee have demanded that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and EPC contractors strictly comply with their commitments to speed up the Kohima to Jessami road project with quality work without any further delay with the fall of right season.
CPO president Vezuhu Keyho and CPO 2-lane Committee convener Wepe Mekrisuh in a press release stated that the public had been anticipating good road from NHIDCL and companies as it was their lifeline for socio-economic development and livelihood.
Hence, in the interest of public welfare and interest, they said they were actively involved in collaboration with administrations for early implementation of the project by extending full support and cooperation to the NHIDCL and companies for a good road by ensuring its timely completion.
But, following the lackadaisical attitude of the companies, slow progress of the project works, and poor workmanship, they mentioned that they were compelled to express their displeasure and dissatisfaction over their broken commitment and flip-flop approaches.
They lamented that despite several pressures, appeals and meetings with NHIDCL authorities and EPC contractors for proper road maintenance and progress of the work, their promises and assurances remained unfulfilled.
They said the people’s patience was being tested and pushed to the limit as the road in Chakhabama packages I and 2 had been left abandoned for years together, causing severe public inconveniences. In this regard, they urged the NHIDCL to release advances to the EPC contractor for faster implementation of the work.
The duo stated that there had been several accidents leading to loss of lives due to poor road maintenance, adding that it was a fit case to sue the erring parties.
Noting that the people had tolerated them all, they asserted that the commuters had every right to avail free passage of movement and safety without any hindrance during the two-lane constructions as per the provisions.
In the best interest of all, Keyho and Mekrisuh appealed the NHIDCL and EPC contractors to speed up the project works without any further delay.
They also called for clearing all blocked drains and landslide debris from the road side in completed packages without fail.
They also requested all the affected village councils to caution the erroneous miners from their respective areas to avoid damaging the road and clear them wherever necessary, as there had been rampant mining activities along the two-lane road, causing inconveniences and compromising road safety.
