Extracurricular activities organised for students

As part of academic and extracurricular activities, educational institutions and other organisations organised various programmes for the students, faculties and staff.
Kiphire: As part of Janbhagidari events across the country in run up to G20 4th Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting on the theme, “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, Kiphire district organised painting competitions on June 1 at Government Middle School (GMS) Longya Ward Kiphire and GMS Medical Ward Kiphire.
A total of 31 students of class 6 to class 8 took part in the competition at GMS Longya Ward Kiphire while 19 students of GMS Medical Ward Kiphire took part in the competition.
NU: Nagaland University (NU) Lumami under “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” conducted “poster making competition- 2023” on the topic, “Life & Environment” across its four campuses on May 31. NU informed that 60 participants partook in the competition which was co-ordinated by Professor Amod Sharma (Medziphema Campus), Dr. Rashmi (Kohima Campus), Ramesh Singh (Dimapur Campus) and Ashish Kumar (Lumami). NU informed that the winners would be awarded on June 5, “World Environment Day”.
MGM College: One-day orientation programme on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020-Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) was organised by MGM College, Dimapur on June 1. During the programme, chief speaker, Livingstone Foundation College principal, Dr. Behra briefed the mentors and the administration on the core points of NEP, 2020 and in particular FYUGP, as per the University’s standards.
NEISSR: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organised a “farewell programme” for the Master of Social Work 2021 – 2023 batch on June 1 at Peace Centre Hall, Chümoukedima. Special guest of the programme, Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, Kerala, vice principal, Dr. Aby P. Varghese encouraged the outgoing students to be kind, compassionate, and never forget the values instilled by the faculty. He also emphasized the importance of embracing diversity and differences that make the world beautiful. In his speech, NEISSR principal Dr. Fr. CP Anto encouraged the outgoing students to uphold the values of the institute and expressed hope that they would cherish the new indigenous learning, which would enhance their competency and benefit the people. Parish Priest, St. Joseph Parish and principal, Rev. Fr. Anthony Dukru Rozu also exhorted the students to be confident, be a contributor to their family and society.
Hollotoli School & BFC CIHSR: The “World No Tobacco Day” was observed by Hollotoli School and Break Free Clinic, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) on May 31 under the theme, “We need food, not Tobacco”.
At Hollotoli School, district surveillance officer, Dimapur, Dr. Kavito Zhimomi highlighted the keynotes on anti-tobacco campaign. He also informed that “Tobacco Free School to Tobacco Free Home” is a campaign initiated by the State Tobacco Control Cell, Nagaland so that educational institute becomes tobacco free. He stated that the campaign would sensitize the students on the dangers of tobacco, the ill effects of tobacco usage and the negative impact it has on the environment. Dr. Kavito informed that all educational institutes in Nagaland have been declared as “Tobacco Free” to strengthen tobacco control laws, to reduce easy accessibility of tobacco products to children, to protect the future generation from the full impact of tobacco epidemic.
At Break Free Clinic, CIHSR, the day was observed in collaboration with College of Nursing, CIHSR at LG Hall, CIHSR, wherein District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Dimapur, Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo gave an exposition on the theme “We need food, not tobacco”. She also highlighted on the present scenario of tobacco consumption in India and in particular in Nagaland.
During the programme, College of Nursing, CIHSR was also declared a “Tobacco Free College. A role play on the theme was also presented by 2nd Year B.Sc Nursing students.
UCTC: As per the directive of NCTE to commemorate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Education Department of Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur on June 2 conducted a workshop under the banner “Self- Defence”. The resource persons were the Shoalin Brothers i.e., Ruokuo John Soruno, Meyieshielie Albert Soruno and Daivd Keninguto Soruno. Apart from demonstration of various shaolin styles and techniques the student-teachers were also initiated into some basic of the same.
