Farmers’ market-cum-RRTC building inaugurated

Rural development, commissioner and secretary, Neposo Theluo, (IAS), inaugurated the farmers’ market-cum-Rural Resource & Training Centre (RRTC) building on December 4, at Chokriba under RD block Kikruma, Phek district as the special guest. 

The building was constructed under grant to rural local bodies for areas not included in Part IX & Part IXA of the Constitution during 2019-20. The building has 80×26 sq. ft market area including 2 toilets attached rooms for resource person on the first floor and 5 rooms of 26’x12’ size for trainees with toilet facilities on the ground floor and a separate kitchen/dining hall with sufficient parking space. 

Special guest in his speech said that the project was sanctioned against VDB Thipuzu, but Chokriba (Chokri Area Centre) was chosen for the project site so as to enable all the neighbouring villages avail the market and training facilities. While expressing his full satisfaction for successful completion of the project, he underlined the importance of the farmers’ market and told the people of the area especially the farming community that they should be grateful to the rural development department for fulfilling their dream and urged them to utilize the asset to the optimum level for their benefits. 

Theluo also exhorted the people of the area to adopt sustainable agricultural practice, conserve forests and wildlife; work hard not only to attain self-sufficiency but surplus in production of fruits and vegetables and supply to the state capital as the area has the advantage of its proximity to the capital. He suggested that seminars and workshops should be conducted frequently for economic upliftment of the society.

OSD higher education, Dr. Medongoyi Rhakho, presented the concept note on the Rural Resource & Training Centre. He stated that training would be conducted in four domains-mindset training or spiritual training, lifestyle training, practical training and theoretical training with the slogan “Give a man a fish and you feed him a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a life time” and the motto “Faith and Work”- Right faith should result in good work and good work should be productive. The mission statement of RRTC is “To change a person, firstly we need to change what he thinks and to change what he thinks, we need to change what he does” with the table manners slogan “Do not eat to eat, but eat to work. If you don’t like to work, do not eat. Work at least four hours for each meal”. He urged the village authorities to select suitable candidates for the first batch to come out with the successful stories.
