The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, organised a one-day entrepreneurship development training on August 4 at its office in Jalukie, focusing on pineapple and papaya cultivation under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP).
Speaking at the programme, CTO (Soil Science), Z. James Kikon, shared improved cultivation practices and highlighted the potential of fruit farming in the district.
Guest of honour, DAO Peren, Dr. Zieleigai Ndang, encouraged farmers to adopt modern technologies to boost fruit production and advised on offseason cultivation to avoid market oversaturation.
DFO/PD-ATMA Peren, C. Dory Yanthan, also attended as guest of honour and called for sustainable use of natural resources to enhance agricultural output.
SMS (Fruit Science), Dr. Prashant Kalal, led a technical session on disease and pest management in papaya and provided guidance on flower induction in pineapple using NAA and Ethrel.
Inputs including pineapple and papaya saplings, neem oil, fungicides, and agricultural tools were distributed to 25 farmers from Jalukie and Ahthibung blocks.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Kalal, while PS & Head, KVK Peren, Dr. K.L. Meena, delivered the keynote address. Vote of thanks was proposed by FPO Project Manager, Dr. Rokozeno Chalieu. Farmers from Jalukie and Ahthibung blocks participated in the programme.
