A three-day training on “Backyard Poultry Farming with Improved Germplasm and Management Practices” organized by College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (CoVS&AH), Jalukie, Peren to enhance the capacity building of poultry farmers of Nagaland, under the aegis of NEH scheme, funded by ICAR-Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar, commenced on Wednesday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. I. Shakuntala, Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, encouraged the participants to adopt scientific poultry farming and management practices.
She emphasized that such practices would not only increase farmers’ income but also bridge the gap between supply and demand for meat and eggs in the state. In his welcome speech, Dr. Bhabesh Mili, Assistant Professor & Course Coordinator, highlighted the significance of the training programme and provided an overview of the topics that would be covered.
35 participants from Old Jalukie, Jalukie-B, Jalukie, and Samziuram villages of Peren district are attending the training. During interactions with the participants in the inaugural session, they shared the challenges faced in accessing improved poultry germplasm/ breeds/ varieties and essential inputs such as feed, vaccination, and healthcare for their birds and animals in their respective villages.
