Farmers of Socunoma trained on litchi cultivation

ICAR-All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Fruits, based at Medziphema Centre, department of Horticulture, Nagaland University, conducted a training program for Socunoma farmers in Chumoukedima district on “Management of Newly Established Litchi Orchards.”


The event, held on October 14, aimed to educate the farmers on the importance of adhering to a schedule for intercultural operations and plant protection measures to enhance fruit quality and yield.
The training was a continuation of a previous session held in May 2023, where litchi saplings were distributed to attendees for the purpose of establishing litchi orchards.


The event was chaired by enumerator-cum-field assistant at AICRP on Fruits Aroro Ngullie and Assistant Professor, department of Horticulture, Dr. Sentirenla Jamir, provided insights on soil, plant management, and canopy management techniques essential for the early growth phases of litchi trees. Prof. C.S.Maiti, project-in-charge, extended an invitation to dedicated farmers to volunteer their lands for demonstration plots to showcase advanced litchi cultivation techniques. The training concluded with an interactive session between the farmers and AICRP’s technical staff.
