Farmers sensitized on silk tech innovations

DIMAPUR

An awareness programme under the banner of Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) was held at Chumoukedima with the objective of sensitizing farmers on the latest innovations in sericulture at Amaluma village community hall, Chumoukedima on August 19.
The programme was graced by Mayangjal Walling, District Sericulture Officer; Dr. Anil Kumar S.T., Scientist-B; and Zhipen, Supervisor and Farm In-charge.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anil Kumar highlighted several innovative technologies that have the potential to significantly enhance productivity and income in the sericulture sector. These included the construction of modern silkworm rearing houses with controlled temperature and humidity, adoption of disinfectants and bio-based methods for disease prevention, introduction of high-yielding silkworm breeds to boost cocoon production, and the use of improved reeling and spinning technologies to produce high-quality silk yarn.
Speaking at the event, Mayangjal Walling encouraged farmers to adopt the new technologies developed by the Central Silk Board, emphasizing that modern practices are essential for achieving better profitability and sustainable income generation.
The programme witnessed active participation from local farmers and sericulture stakeholders, who expressed keen interest in the innovative practices demonstrated. The event concluded with an interactive session, during which experts addressed queries from the participants.
The MRMA initiative reflects ongoing efforts to empower sericulture farmers in Nagaland through scientific knowledge and advanced technologies, thereby strengthening the silk industry in the region.
