Farmers trained on fruit cultivation

Focusing on cultivation practices of fruits and plantation crops, Department of Horticulture organized a training programme at training hall of the State Horticulture Nursery on Thursday.
Delivering the keynote address, DHO Eyongol Natso, said the programme was organized for the benefit of the farmers and creating awareness to cultivate better seed for better result during the process of cultivating different varieties of fruits.  
Speaking on banana cultivation and orchard management, Horticulture Officer, Dimapur, Talimongba, asked the farmers to be dedicated in learning the method required to achieve better results. He said Dimapur is a suitable place for banana growers with sub tropical climate. He explained in brief the requirements to grow banana.  
Mentioning about the benefits of cashewnut, Assistant Horticulture Officer (AHO), Dimapur, Alongba Tzudir, spoke on cultivation process of cashewnut and coconut with reference to Nagaland. He said cashewnut has zero percent of cholesterol adding the cell pro-anthocynidin present in cashewnut prevents lowering of blood pressure in human body. He said the nuts contain high protein for which it is called as ‘wonder nut.’ He further demonstrated the ways to improvise the growth of cashewnut to the farmers.  
Meanwhile, AHO Aoimrong spoke on improved techniques in mango cultivation.   
Air layering and tongue grafting of fruits and plantation crops were highlighted at the programme making it easier for the farmers to learn through practical demonstration. Altogether more than 40 farmers within Dimapur attended the programme and were benefitted by clarifying their doubts.
