After the dissident group at Sovima camp and chief minister’s group at de Oriental Grand Kohima insisted that each should lead/form the government, the now ball lies in Governor’s court on whether to summon Assembly for a trial of strength or to decide the issue on the basis of head count of legislators in each camp.
Ruling NPF-led DAN government was mulling a possible option of moving a confidence motion after DAN co-ordination held its meeting Thursday in the state capital.
Sources from the chief minister’s camp in Kohima said “we cannot stay on like this thereby confidence motion has to be moved in favor of the DAN government”. The source said the dissidents have no means of dislodging the present government and that chief minister will move a confidence motion on the floor of the house.
They maintained that the floor of the Assembly was the right place to decide whether chief minister enjoyed majority among the 60 members.
One source said a whip will be issued to NPF members to vote in favour of the motion and would also include DAN alliance partners. The source said if the dissident group votes against the motion, then they could be liable for disqualification as per the constitution.
He maintained that DAN alliance partners were intact and indicated that the present ruling government under chief minister T.R.Zeliang will continue.
Further, he said when elected members were elected to bring development in the state the dissidents group instead, were disturbing the smooth functioning of the government with their “anti-people activities”.
Sources also confirmed that chief minister has received the resignation letters of the 12 NPF legislators that included- two ministers, five parliamentary secretaries, five chairman and advisors.
