A one – day exposure trip in L6 (Biodiversity Conservation Landscape) Villages was conducted on January 30, 2025, organised by Forest and Biodiversity Management Project (FBMP), Mokokchung.
The group visited the State Agriculture Research Station (SARS). A brief session was held at SARS Conference Hall, where Agriculture Officer at SARS, Longham Phom, welcomed participants and provided an overview of the department’s activities and vermicomposting. Talimeren Ao expressed appreciation on behalf of the FBMP team.
After the session, the group proceeded to field inspections, and observed the cultivation of millets, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, and Azolla. They also gained hands-on experience with vermicomposting. The team observed paddy, orchard, and coffee cultivation, manure composting, charcoal pits, and crop development techniques implemented by the department to promote crop growth and development.
After the field inspections, the team visited Merakum Tzuin (Nagar Van) at Yimchalu, 3 km from Mokokchung Town. Once an abandoned Jhum area, it has been transformed into an urban nature park for recreation, nature education, and eco-friendly activities.
During the visit, Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung, Shreyansee Jain and DFO Mokokchung Forest Division, Dr. Sentitula Pongen, interacted with the project villagers, discussing forest conservation efforts and the villagers’ needs. They also talked about ongoing conservation activities in the village.
During the trip, 45 participants, including members of the CCA committee and SHGs from Batch-2 Village (Akhoya, Unger, Changtongya Old & Nukshiyim), took part. The team was led by Lipokinla Pongen (FcOM) accompanied by Talimeren Ao (Convergence Expert, DMU) and Imemakok (Forester-1).
