FCRA Bill likely to come up in Parliament on Aug 12

NEW DELHI, AUG 8 (AGENCIES): The government is likely to initiate discussion on the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, in Parliament on August 12 and seek its passage before the Monsoon Session ends on August 13.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju have consulted Opposition leaders, religious groups and Northeastern chief ministers on contentious provisions.
Introduced on March 25, the Bill proposes that a designated authority take custody of assets of foreign-funded organisations if their FCRA registration lapses, is cancelled or surrendered, with permanent forfeiture if not restored within the prescribed period.
Mizoram CM Lalduhoma raised six demands, including opposition to retrospective application. Shah assured Catholic leaders it would not apply retrospectively.
