Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has issued a clarification in response to the press releases issued on February 28 and March 7 by Sukhai Awomi and his team regarding an alleged “joint meeting”.
In a joint statement issued by Tusoveyi Demo, deputy kilo kilonser and Pousuheng, commander-in-chief, Naga Army, stated that the claimed joint meeting reportedly held on February 24 at Dimapur was unknown to them. It further clarified that none of the FGN members from council of Kilonsers, Tatar, army wing or the chief of army had attended the meeting.
They described the claim as misleading and asserted that it had only created unnecessary confusion. It also stated that the claim that the chief of army attended the meeting was “not true at all” and termed it a direct challenge and insult to the office of the chief of army of the Naga Army.
The group warned that Awomi, also known as Asukha Awomi, and those involved would be dealt with strictly, adding that the matter would not go unpunished.
Meanwhile, Naga Army, FGN reiterated that it stood firmly in support of the leadership of Kuzholhuyi Vadeo, Kedahge of FGN, and Thinoselie M Keyho, president of Naga National Council (NNC).
In another statement, FGN kedallo Haingau Zeliang, issued a rejoinder to the March 7 press statement titled “FGN issues clarification on leadership”, clarifying its position regarding the Sumi region and Sukhai Awomi.
FGN said the Sumi region under the organisation had been dissolved in 2023 and that the decision was published in local dailies on September 27, 2023 along with a “resolution commitment” stating that the region would only be reconstituted with the mandate of the Sumi people.
It further stated that Awomi, who was associated with the Sumi region, was terminated from the organisation on September 26, 2023. According to FGN, the Sumi region has not been reconstituted since then and any such step would only be undertaken with the mandate and support of the Sumi community as per the earlier resolution.
The statement maintained that Awomi had no connection with either the NNC or FGN since his termination in September 2023.
FGN also said that on February 21, 2026 it had issued a public warning notice against Awomi, also known as Asukha Awomi, alleging involvement in “anti-national and illegal activities”, particularly in Dimapur, and accusing him of using the name of NNC/FGN despite his termination.
Stating that it would not tolerate attempts to tarnish the image of the organisations, FGN urged Awomi and his team to stop using the name of FGN, adding that the principles and discipline of the Yezhabo (constitution) would guide the organisation.
Meanwhile, FGN informed that the 70th Tatar Hoho was held at Kohima on January 29, 2026, where members unanimously re-elected Kuzholhuyi Vadeo as Kedahge (president) of FGN.
The organisation also reaffirmed its support for the leadership of Thinoselie M. Keyho, president of the NNC.
