A fellowship-cum-awareness programme under the Drugs Awareness and Wellness Navigation (DAWN) Scheme 2025 was organised for jail inmates at District Jail, Longleng on September 7.
The initiative was jointly conducted by Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA) and Phomla Hoichem, with logistical support from Paralegal Volunteer (PLV), Yingli Keikung.
According to DIPR report, retainer Lawyer (LDLSA), Panglang Y. Phom, who chaired the programme, said the initiative aimed to promote spiritual growth, rehabilitation, and community engagement among inmates. He also briefed them on the objectives of the DAWN Scheme.
President of Phomla Hoichem, Ainyu Phom, spoke on the harmful effects of drugs and shared strategies to curb the supply and demand chain. LDLSA secretary, Kumdilong Kessen, expressed appreciation to Phomla Hoichem and called for continued collaboration to introduce skill-based activities in the jail.
A testimony was shared by a reformed addict and convict, encouraging inmates to overcome addiction and seek rehabilitation through spiritual support.
A special number was presented by executive members of Phomla Hoichem, led by Aphang Phom, along with the inmates. Proceeds from the sale of banana chips and offerings collected during the programme were contributed to the inmates’ welfare fund.
Following the fellowship, Phomla Hoichem conducted a hands-on session on banana and potato chips making to engage inmates in productive activities.
A total of 17 inmates participated in the trial production, which was sold to well-wishers. LDLSA donated bananas and packaging materials, while District Jail Longleng sponsored the cooking oil. Phomla Hoichem contributed a wok, vegetable slicer, and other kitchen essentials.
PLVs Yingli Keikung and Manau Phom also assisted during the programme. Offertory prayer was led by Deputy LADC, P. Monyei Phom. Assistant Jailor, Bankathung Patton, while proposing the vote of thanks, acknowledged the initiative as the first of its kind in District Jail, Longleng.
The programme began with an invocation by General Secretary, Phomla Hoichem, N. Manla Phom.
