Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, OCT 20 (NPN)

The festival of Deepawali, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, was celebrated with enthusiasm and devotion at Dimapur City, which has a large number of Hindus and Jains.
The traditional five-day observance, marked by religious rituals and social harmony, was held in accordance with Hindu customs.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, general secretary of Shree Marwari Samaj, Basu Damani, highlighted the spiritual significance of Diwali, commemorating the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. Despite the challenges faced during the year, Damani noted that the festive spirit remained undiminished.
He also lauded the efforts of the district administration and police in facilitating the celebrations with necessary environmental safeguards.
Prominent businessman, Chandu Agarwal, remarked that each day of Diwali carries a unique significance, symbolising goodness, renewal and devotion. He said the celebration commenced with Dhanteras, dedicated to the Goddess of medicine and prosperity, during which devotees lit diyas to invoke health and purity.
The following day, Chhoti Diwali, saw homes and business establishments illuminated and prayers offered for well-being.
Chandu said the main day- Badi Diwali- was observed with Maha Lakshmi Puja, considered highly auspicious for the business community. Devotees performed rituals seeking blessings for prosperity and peace, while homes and shops were thoroughly cleaned and decorated.
He further mentioned that beyond the Marwari community, residents across Dimapur joined in the celebrations, performing three rounds of puja- morning, evening and midnight- believing the midnight worship to be the most auspicious.
