DIMAPUR, JUN 22 (NPN): A fire broke out in Room No. 2 of Nagaland House on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi, on Monday morning, reportedly due to an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit.
In a post on X, adviser to chief minister and chairman Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha said staff of Nagaland House responded immediately and used fire extinguishers available within the premises, neighbouring apartments and the office to contain the blaze before the arrival of the Delhi Fire Service.
Metha said the fire spread rapidly, making it impossible to approach from the front. He said staff members climbed onto the roof and used fire extinguishers through the rear windows until firefighters arrived and brought the situation fully under control. He informed that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.
Metha said concerned authorities and senior state government officials were assessing the extent of the damage and the structural condition of the building.
Nagaland House, inaugurated in 1973 by former chief minister Dr. Hokeshe Sema, has served as the state’s official guest house in New Delhi for over five decades.
Metha noted that the state government had already initiated plans to replace the ageing structure with a modern facility and expressed hope that the process would now be expedited.
