DIMAPUR, SEP 23 (NPN): More than 100 shanties were reportedly destroyed and at least 200 families, mostly migrant workers, affected after a major fire broke out at Kuda Village Lane 10B here Wednesday.
Affected families said a suspected short circuit occurred around 5am and was brought under control by residents. Another suspected short circuit around 2pm is believed to have triggered the major blaze, which rapidly spread through the densely packed settlement.
Around 10 autorickshaws were also reportedly gutted. Seven fire engines, including six from the central fire station and one from Chümoukedima, were deployed.
No casualties were reported. The full extent of damage remains unclear.
