Reacting to the alleged firing on two trucks in Jharnapani area on September 19, the Dimapur District Truck Owner association (DDTOA), Dimapur Truck Driver Union (DTDU) and Dimapur District Truck Driver Welfare Trade Union (DDTDWTU) Monday threatened to launch agitation and impose economic blockade till those responsible were put behind the bars.
In a joint statement, DDTOA president Vishito Kinny, DTDU president Inaqhe Sema and DDTDWTU president Kuhoi Zhimo stated that the incident occurred around Jharnapani, Medziphema on Sunday at around 9pm when the trucks (NL-01AD-2273 and HR-39B-6195) moving towards Kohima were fired upon some unknown miscreants.
The unions further said that the drivers of the two vehicles out of fear, did not stop and rushed down to Chümoukedima check gate and informed the gate in-charge. Later, the signatories said officers from Medziphema police station arrived to investigate, but no details including the whereabouts of driver and his helper had been furnished till now.
Further, the trucker unions have sought response from the police and administration as to what steps were being taken to protect the driver. The unions said that “justice should be served to the drivers and also the owner of the truck.”
