A first ever Campus Bird Count in Nagaland was done at Montfort School, Baghty, Wokha district on February 16.
A press release from Montfort School Baghty media cell stated that Campus Bird Count, a national event runs through February 15 to 18, is held every year. This is the first time that a campus from Nagaland registered for the event.
At the program in Wokha, Onenjunghi Ao, photographer, Nagaland Forest Department, briefed the students on facts and importance of birds and their conservation. Lansothung Lotha, range forest officer, Baghty range, introduced students to the Campus Bird Count event, GBBC and classroom birding. Besides bird watching, the events at Montfort School included a quiz competition and classroom birding where digital media was used a means to identify birds, and to teach students the importance of birds and bird watching.
The program was organised by Baghty Range under Wokha Forest Division in collaboration with eBird India, Bird Count India and Greenhumour. Organizers also thanked Zuthunglo Ezung, DFO, Wokha for her valuable guidance in organising the event. Altogether, 40 students participated in the program.
