First director of NEZCC dies

First director of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) and former secretary to the government of Nagaland, N. Bendang Ao passed away in Delhi Friday after a brief illness. He was 83 and leaves behind his wife, five children and eight grand-children.

The funeral service will be held on November 3,at 2 p.m. at the family residence, Lake View colony Dimapur. Late Bendang, from Mopongchuket, was instrumental in setting up the NEZCC, Dimapur and was appointed as the first director.

A recipient of the Governor’s award, late Bendang joined the government service as deputy director of Information Publicity.

Among others, late Bendang was also the founding member of– Clark Theological College and Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland. He also served as headmaster of Clark Memorial High School, Impur. He was also the president of Ao Students’ Conference from 1964-65 and had served as general secretary of Naga Students’ Union Shillong and All Colleges Union, Shillong.
