
The first Eco carp hatchery under the department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was introduced at Dzü-ü valley, around 20 km away from Kohima.
The project was initiated under CSS of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) to meet the requirements of fish production in Kohima and Phek districts.
The hatchery was inaugurated by Fisheries and Aquatic Resources director, Kevisa Kense in the presence of special guest, Er. Keviletuo Yiese chief engineer (Retd) Power department and other department officials. Director of Fisheries department, Kevisa Kense speaking on the occasion said it was time that Naga people should concentrate and invest their time on fish cultivation. He said that there was nothing more profitable than fishery under agri and allied sector. Kense also added that the fishery sector will immensely help Nagas to bloom economically in the near future. He informed that the concerned department has forwarded a proposal of Rs. 130 crore to the ministry of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, for the development of fisheries in the State.
He also said that Nagaland has a potential area of around 30,000 hectares for fisheries, where around 3000 hectares have been developed. Scheme incharge Neitho-o Kuotsu in his keynote address, who is also the deputy director of the department, promised that the concerned department will render its best to assist the beneficiaries in producing quality fish seeds.
He said that there has been a short fall of production of fish seeds both in Kohima and Phek districts but hoped that hatchery will immensely boost the development and advancement in the fishing sector.
Er. Keviletuo Yiese called upon the department officials to continue rendering their best service for promotion and development of the fish cultivation in the State. The eco carp hatchery was dedicated by Kikruneilie Yiese, associate pastor of UCRC, Kohima.
