The first edition of “Sumi Night” curated by the group “Back to the Roots” was held at RCEMPA, Jotsoma on Saturday with advisor Food and Civil Supplies, LM&CP and Taxes, government of Nagaland, Pukhai Sumi, as the special guest.
In his exhortation, advisor lauded the young group of people (Back to the Roots) for coming up with such a programme to promote and preserve Sumi songs and talents.
He reminded the community saying “we have forgotten to sing and compose in our own dialect while catching up with Westernisation and technology”.
He also said that their traditions, cultures and language is slowly fading away if they don’t keep practising and using it to keep it alive.
The advisor also asked the elders and leaders to give importance in encouraging the young and the upcoming generation about one’s tribe, culture and traditions.
The special guest and his host of dignitaries enjoyed the evening filled with Sumi love songs and other special presentations.
The artists of the night were Livika Assumi, Ghokiye Assumi, Atto Achumi, Abel Assumi, The Kid Bovix, Pretty Rhythm, Kivika Achumi Bokai and Akehoto – (Ethnic Future) and Black Tea.
Many people old and young from all walks of life attended the event.
