Leshemi village got its first health unit, a sub centre, inaugurated by Dr. Krvichusa Medikhrü, mission director, National Health Mission, Nagaland, department of Health & Family Welfare, on October 6.
A press release by NHM Nagaland stated that Dr. Kevichusa called upon the villagers to take ownership of the health centre and make it their responsibility to maintain it. Citing the example of some villages where community participation in the health sector is very strong, Dr. Medikhru appealed to them to be involved in the future progress of the sub-centre. He also highlighted the ongoing Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign (M-RVC) in the state.
Dr. Atoshe Sumi, state program officer (Immunisation), also emphasized on the importance of the M-RVC and encouraged the villagers present to be an example for other villages by covering all the targeted children. The land for construction of the sub-centre and also a staff quarter has been donated by the villagers.
The program was chaired by Wezhiepe Sara, chairman, Village Council Leshemi, Zhietshüte Lashushe, pastor Leshemi Baptist Church and Zhietshünyi Tepfo, head deacon pronounced the invocation and benediction respectively. The vote of thanks was proposed by Vikedu Thahu.
