First Summer football tourney kicks off in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, JUL 14 (NPN): The Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur, came alive with excitement as the First Summer Football Tournament kicked off on July 14 and will culminate on 15. Organised by Don Bosco Sports Academy (DBSA) in collaboration with the Dimapur District Football Association (DDFA), the event marked a significant step in promoting grassroots football in the region.
Vice president of the Nagaland Football Association and President of DDFA, Mughato Sumi, graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, he underscored the urgent need for improved facilities and a competitive environment to nurture budding athletes. He highlighted Dimapur’s pressing requirement for an 11-a-side ground to further elevate the district’s football standards. The DDFA reaffirmed its commitment to work collectively for the advancement of local sports.
Other dignitaries present included joint secretary DDFA, Keyi Putlang and joint secretary, DDFA, Kavi Swu. The ceremony began with a prayer led by Fr. (Dr.) A J Sebastian, retired professor and former HoD of the English Department, while coordinator of DBSA, Fr. Daniel Gangmei, extended a warm welcome to the participating teams from across the Northeast.
The spirited opening also featured the formal oath-taking ceremony led by secretary of the organising committee, Jonathan Gangmei.
