Fish imports banned in Wokha district

The ongoing drive against formalin-treated fish has further intensified with Wokha district administration now prohibiting storage with immediate effect, distribution or sale of fresh fish products, including Crustaceans, treated with formalin or other forms of preservatives for three months or till corrective measures are taken.
In a notification issued on Friday, Wokha deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon warned that failure to comply with provision of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 and the notification would attract penalties up to Rs 10 lakh with imprisonment under Section 59 of the Food Safety & Standards Act. District administrations of Kohima, Mon, Zunheboto and Mokokchung have also issued similar bans.
