Department of fisheries conducted five days training programme from January 11 to 15 at Ekokchu village, Wokha on “prospects of aquaculture & fisheries for grassroot levels.”
The training was funded under NFDB 2015-16; National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) Hyderabad is a registered society under the administrative control of animal husbandry, dairying & fisheries ministry of agriculture government of India.
During the inaugural function the district fishery officer (DFO) Wokha, Sentinaro said, having vast resources in the state, it was estimated that a bulk quantity of about 3850 MT was supplemented by importing fish from outside the state.
She further added that the gap could be bridged by adopting scientific management practices and proper utilization of existing ponds and water bodies.
Four resource persons namely, Nchumbemo and Mhomo both fishery inspectors (FI) and AFI, Tsatheo and FD, Tsutsamo educated the fish farmers through lectures and practical demonstrations.
They spoke on guideline for pond design and construction, proper pond management, species selection, stocking quantity, feeding, water quality monitoring and maintenance, marketing, aquatic weeds and disease control, and awareness on destructive methods of fishing.
Altogether 20 farmers attended the training programme.
