Five Burnt Alive as Car Catches Fire on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

At least five people, including three women, a young girl, and one man from Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh, were burnt alive when their moving car suddenly caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Alwar district late Wednesday night. Officials said the incident occurred near Pillar Number 115/300 under Maujpur police station limits, with flames engulfing the vehicle within moments, leaving the occupants no chance to escape. The driver, Vinod Kumar Mehar, managed to jump out but suffered 80 per cent burn injuries and remains in critical condition.

Local residents alerted authorities, prompting the NHAI patrolling team, police, and fire tenders to rush to the scene. Despite efforts to extinguish the blaze, the car was reduced to a charred wreck. The injured driver was first taken to a community health centre and later referred to Alwar district hospital for treatment. Senior officials, including DSP Kailash Jindal and SP Sudhir Chaudhary, visited the site to assess the situation and direct further action.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, which remains unknown. The tragedy underscores the dangers of sudden vehicle fires, with authorities working to identify the victims formally and ensure accountability.
