Department of Horticulture conducted Floriculture training for Flower Growers in Wokha district on July 19 at Don Bosco Youth centre Wokha, initiated and chaired by DHO Wokha Jerry Patton.
Resource person for the training was Kenei Sekhose (M. Sc Floriculture), Technical Assistant (Flower), from Directorate of Horticulture Kohima.
DHO Wokha, Jerry Patton while delivering introductory speech apprised for professional position of flower growers in the district and also expressed gratitude towards the flower growers for their sincerity in maintaining their Polyhouses. Kenei Sekhose as resource person imparted technical ideas to the growers and said that construction of Polyhouse is the first important step towards Flower farming, with proper wind outlet and ventilations. While expressing technical aspects for the cultivation of lillium, Kenei also explained in detail on how different varieties of flowers, such as Oriental, Asiatic, and L /A Hybrid would be maintained in Wokha.
Responding to the flower growers complain that the market price received was never of anticipated amount, the resource person advised them that harvesting should be done depending on the distant of the market from the polyhouse, which means, blooming of the buds should start after the flower plants reach the market place inorder to receive attractive price in return from the Company.
All the thirty participants, who attended the day long training programme were given incentive as encouragement.
