
Three-day flower exhibition cum competition organised by Nagaland Flower Grower Society (NFGS) in collaboration with the department of Horticulture concluded Thursday at Heritage Kohima.
In the exhibition cum competition, “Alice in Wondeland’ displayed by Neikeduonuo and team were adjudged as the winner of the competition while Neilhovono and Bino Neikha was declared as second and third respectively in the stall competition.
Retired director horticulture department, Watienla Jamir who graced the closing function cum prize distribution programme as guest of honour, said floriculture was one of the fastest growing sectors in the state.
She said commercial floriculture should be given more importance in order to generate income and sustain the livelihood of the flower growers.
Jamir said floriculture sector could bring revenue in the state and encouraged more organised management in this sector. She also stressed on creating more awareness among the people on the benefits and advantages in this sector.
Altogether 16 stalls were set up by 40 flower growers from across the state. Prizes were distributed in 11 categories such ferns and foliage, cacti and succulents, indigenous foliage and flowers, bulbs and tubers, orchids (indigenous & hybrid), bonsai etc.
Participants from Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung and Phek districts took part in the exhibition cum competition. The next flower exhibition cum competition would be held at Agri-Expo Dimapur.
