State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, on Friday asserted that the Centre’s decision to end Free Movement Regime (FMR) and fence the India-Myanmar border needed thorough discussion and consultation with the people.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Republic Day celebration here, Rio said “If the need be, then we have to work out a formula on how to solve the issue for the people and prevent infiltration” because Nagaland shares border with Myanmar and Nagas on both sides.
Rio also pointed out that many people live on the Indian side, but their farms were on the other side. Therefore, he said there has to be a workable formula. On January 20, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Centre would end the free movement of people at the India-Myanmar border, and fence it completely.
