FMU, Medziphema organises exhibition, sales day

Commemorating India’s 75th year of Independence, Medziphema Field Management Unit (FMU) and Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) under Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) JICA & FDA observed “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” event by organising an “exhibition-cum-sales day” under Medziphema village Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) on November 29 at Medziphema local ground.
In a press release, Medziphima beat range forest officer Florence T. Sangtam informed that during the programme, special guest, advisor sericulture, excise & minority affairs, Zhaleo Rio appreciated the efforts of the forest department in providing such marketing platforms for SHGs to showcase and sell vegetables and handicrafts.
He also said that it was a good beginning and that the very approach should cover all administrative headquarters by encouraging SHGs.
NFMP project director, Vedpal Singh extended his good wishes for their future endeavours and appreciated the hard work of SHGs and FMU Medziphema for their initiative.
DFO Dimapur, Beizo Suokhrie also said he was impressed with the active participation of SHGs in running the stall.
Also speaking at the programme, FMU head Medziphema, forest ranger, Florence T. Sangtam emphasised on the need for sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural communities.
She therefore said that with such events, the aim for a sustainable community was achieved through participatory planning and capacity development for people and institutions concerned.
Informing that the event would contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals, Florence encouraged the groups to continue activities for the protection of forest resources.
Meanwhile, while appreciating SHGs and stakeholders, FMU Medziphema head also acknowledged Chakhroma Students’ Union in general and CSU president V. Akieto Khro in particular for supporting the SHGs.
She pointed out that the world was looking for naturally grown organic food products which the tribal communities of the country were growing and developing.
In this regard, she urged the general public to come forward and purchase the tribal products which were of good quality. The exhibition-cum-sales day included various local products such as vegetables, wild fruits, handicrafts, face masks and other local organic foods.
